InstantMesh: Efficient 3D Mesh Generation from a Single Image with Sparse-view Large Reconstruction Models

image-to-3dtransformer-based-modelsmesh-representationtraining-scalability

Instant Mesh is an open-source framework for high-quality image to 3D generation. It utilizes a transformer-based sparse view-large reconstruction model to create 3D assets from multi-view images. The framework improves training scalability, exploits temporal priors, and enhances generalization capability. It replaces triplane NERF representation with 3D Gaussians for superior rendering efficiency and incorporates neural mesh optimization methods. Fine-tuning is performed for white background synthesis, and the architecture of the sparse view reconstruction model is modified and enhanced. The training strategy involves two stages and model initialization using pre-trained weights. Camera augmentation and model variants are used for improved robustness. Quantitative and qualitative results demonstrate that Instant Mesh outperforms baselines in perceptual quality and achieves state-of-the-art performance in geometric metrics. The framework provides insights into the limitations and future work.
